Dental Crowns

A crown is an artificial restoration that fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape of a natural tooth.

A crown is sometimes known as a ‘cap’. They can be made of Porcelain, Zirconia, Gold or a combination of these materials.

A dental crown would be suggested by a cosmetic dentist for a number of other reasons, for instance:

You may have discoloured fillings and would like to improve the appearance of the tooth.

You may have had a root filling which will need a crown to protect it.

It may help hold a bridge or denture firmly in place.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is just one of the options available to replace 1 or 2 neighbouring missing teeth.

The ‘bridge’ itself is made of a precious metal for strength, with porcelain ‘teeth’ that are shade matched to your natural teeth, bonded to the base. The bridge is anchored by a dental crown on your own teeth on either side.

Replacing a missing tooth is important for a number of reasons. Your appearance is one reason, but another is that the gap left by a missing tooth can mean greater strain is put on the teeth at either side, or that teeth will drift (move into the empty space) resulting in a crooked smile, food packing and decay.

Dental Veneers

Veneers are used to permanently lighten and straighten your teeth; they are usually used to treat crooked or slanted teeth, gaps between teeth and stained or worn teeth. Veneers are constructed using ultra-thin translucent porcelain, or tooth-coloured composite (filling material), which is shade matched to your choice and bonded to the front surface of your tooth, with or without tooth preparation.

Veneers as a treatment can rejuvenate your smile.

Teeth Whitening

Many people associate professional teeth whitening with movie stars and brides – but in fact, it is the most popular procedure in cosmetic dentistry.

Stained or discoloured teeth are very common among adults of all ages, and come from a variety of sources, such as:

Coffee

Red wine

Soft Drinks

Tea

Smoking

Some medications

How Teeth Whitening Works

Those of us with stained teeth tend to brush more vigorously; this can remove the enamel from your teeth, causing further discolouration and serious dental problems. Others use over-the-counter whitening kits, but they don’t have the prescription strength and lasting effects of a professional teeth-whitening procedure. The key to a long lasting, bright, white smile is to have them whitened before discolouration becomes too severe.

Independent studies show professionally made ‘at home’ whitening treatments, such as Polanight, will obtain the best long-term results.

Your teeth will be cosmetically assessed, then impressions taken and individually designed whitening trays are constructed. With this technique, you can re-use your personal trays at any time in the future to whiten your teeth again.
