FAQs
Below are some popular Frequently Asked Questions relating to Dental Treatments including After Hours Dental Emergency options in Wangaratta. You can also head over to our Childrens FAQ’s page for more specific details relating to Childrens Dentistry.
Q. How often should I see a dentist?
A. Goodison Dental agrees with the Australian Dental Association (ADA) guidelines recommending visiting a dentist at least twice a year for a checkup and professional cleaning.
Q. What should I expect during my appointment?
A. One of our staff members will compile your medical and dental history during your first visit. We will then examine your teeth and gums, screen you for oral cancer, make X-rays of your teeth as needed and complete a TMJ (temporomandibular or jaw joint) exam. After we review your dental profile, we will compile a treatment plan listing all dental treatments and options to be completed and the expected cost per visit. This will allow you to make your appointments to suit your budget. If you require the specialised treatment of an endodontist, orthodontist or oral surgeon we will arrange the necessary referral and x-rays they require.
Q. Will it hurt?
A. We take great pride in providing you dental care that is as stress-free and pain-free as possible. We will discuss treatment options that may require no local anesthetic and whenever possible, alleviate discomfort by the means most comfortable to you.
Q. What if I have a gap in my teeth, a chipped tooth, or teeth that do not respond to normal teeth whitening methods?
A. Porcelain or composite veneers are a great option to rejuvenate your smile! Designed to look like your natural teeth, they can be reshaped to fill a gap, disguise chips or discoloured teeth and can be colour-matched to the rest of your teeth, or a lighter shade if required. Veneers are individually made and permanently attached to the fronts of your existing teeth. Our Smile Gallery contains examples of both options methods.
Q. Can the dentist whiten my teeth?
A. In most cases – Yes. Our practice uses the Polanight ‘at home’ teeth whitening system. For this type of whitening. we make an impression of your teeth and create a mouthguard that fits your bite. Each night you will fill the mouthguard with a small amount of the whitening gel and wear it overnight for a minumum of 10 nights. We will take a ‘shade’ before and after your teeth whitening treatment so you can see the comparison results.
